Tennessee Boxing and Racing Commission
This is the time of the year when race track operators are scheduling their 2004 racing season. There is a lot of thought and work in getting ready for a
great racing season.
I would like to remind all race track owners and operators the State of Tennessee requires a racetrack license to operate any motor vehicle race.
The term motor vehicle means any self- propelled vehicle, the requirements do apply to motorcycles and karts, which seemed to be a frequently asked question.
I am Dan Kelly, the administrator of the Boxing and Racing Division.
To give some background on the Racing Division, T.C.A. 55-22-101 mandates application for license is made to the Department of Commerce and Insurance and requires a Certificate of Insurance to be held on file. There is a
fee of $100.00 due with the application. The insurance is to cover the general public for loss because of bodily injury, including death resulting at the track. The minimum limits of one hundred thousand dollars
($100,000) per person and three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) per accident is required.
Application for License, the required Certificate of Insurance along with a link to the law pertaining to these requirements can be obtained on our website: www.state.tn.us/commerce/boards/boxing/
I appreciate the voluntary compliance from many of the Track owners in obtaining and maintaining a current license. It is important to note that under Tenn.
Code 55-22-108, continued unlicensed operation of a racetrack is a criminal violation. We maintain continuous monitoring of race tracks in the state to ensure compliance with the law.
If I can be of assistance; please feel free to contact me directly. I can be reached at (615) 532-0443,Office/Voice Mail, through our website,
